USAT Sanctioned – USAT Rules

Athletes must follow all USAT rules, this includes (but not limited to):

  • No drafting or blocking on the bike
  • Cyclists may only pass on the left
  • Wetsuit Policy:
    • USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
    • USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 – 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
    • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.

2017 Champion’s Cup Point Series

The 2017 Champion’s Cup is a point series comprised of (6) multisport events in Arizona: Desert Classic Duathlon, (2) Icebug SwimRun, Sahuarita Triathlon, Tempe International Triathlon , Lake Pleasant Dirty Tri & Cup Championship.

Individual Point Standings:

  • Athletes must participate in at least (4) 2017 Champion’s Cup events for their accrued points to count toward an Individual Award, with a maximum of points from participating in (6) events.
  • All individual points will count toward club totals if that athlete is on one active 2017 Club roster.
  • Athletes may not race for multiple clubs or split points between clubs.

Large Triathlon Club Point Standings:

Applicable to Multisport clubs with a roster of 200 or more athletes in 2017. Athletes must be members in good standing for the entire season and listed on the active roster turned in to ADV.FIT before the first race of the Champion’s Cup season.

  • Club must have at least 49 members participate in an event to accrue Club points for that event
  • Club points will be based on only the top 100 finishers per event
  • Additional points for overall club participation (volunteers, most events attended, biggest team per event) will be awarded

Medium Triathlon Club:

Applicable to Multisport clubs with a roster of 199 or less athletes in 2017. Athletes must be members in good standing for the entire season and listed on the active roster turned in to ADV.FIT before the first race of theChampion’s Cup season.

  • Club must have at least 19 members participate in an event to accrue Club points for that event
  • Club points will be based on only the top 50 finishers per event
  • Additional points for overall club participation (volunteers, most events attended, biggest team per event) will be awarded

Point Breakdown

Top 5 males and females overall will retain their position in age group categories and receive both points based on the scale below: (ex: 3rd place overall may also be 1st place in their AG = 13 points). Points are equally allotted for all divisions & distances; Relay, Sprint, Olympic, etc.

Age Groups:

19 & under // 20-24 // 25-29 // 30-34 // 35-39 // 40-44 // 45-49 // 50-54 // 55-59 // 60-64 // 65-69 // 70-74 // 75-79 // 80-84 // 85 & up

Overall:

These points are in addition to an athlete’s Age Group finishing position.

  • 1st Place: 5 Points
  • 2nd Place: 4 Points
  • 3rd Place: 3 Points
  • 4th Place: 2 Points
  • 5th Place: 1 Point

Age Group:

  • 1st Place: 10 Points
  • 2nd Place: 9 Points
  • 3rd Place: 8 Points
  • 4th Place: 7 Points
  • 5th Place: 6 Points
  • 6th Place: 5 Points
  • 7th Place: 4 Points
  • 8th Place: 3 Points
  • 9th Place: 2 Points
  • 10th Place: 1 Point

Participation Points:

  • 1 Point per individual per event, applicable toward Individual and Club Points.
  • Large Club maximum points 100/event, Medium Club Maximum 50/event.

Team Bonuses:

  • Biggest Team: 10 Points per event
  • Most Volunteers: 10 Points per event
  • Most events attended: 15 Points, once per series

Club Eligibility:

Each participant must be a member of the club for at least 30 days and be in good standing and have met all membership requirements of that club.

International, Sprint, and Relay

PLEASE NOTE: The 2017 Courses, Start, & Transition locations ARE NOT YET FINALIZED.

On-site registration will be Saturday, May 20th 5pm – 8pm. The International Triathlon Relay is $175 online and $200 on-site. The Sprint Triathlon Relay is $145 online and $175 on-site. Prices subject to change at Tempe International Triathlon’s discretion. We highly recommend cash for race-day registration in the event of any internet service issues, and we may also designate a cash-only lane for faster service.
